About this plugin
MainWP Team Control is a handy extension for the MainWP Dashboard that lets you manage user roles and permissions across your entire WordPress network with ease.
It’s perfect for agencies and freelancers who bring in team members or clients and need to control exactly what they can see and do. You can assign custom roles, restrict access to specific child sites, and keep your workflow organised without handing over full admin rights to everyone on your team.

Changed
- Important: Existing roles retain their MainWP permissions but no longer grant WordPress administrator access.
- Important: Managing team roles and users now requires an authorized Dashboard administrator (“Team Control owner”). Eligible administrators without a Team Control role are authorized automatically during the initial upgrade.
- Important: Permissions from multiple active roles are now combined. Review existing assignments, as access may expand.
- Important: Roles that cannot be migrated safely are placed on hold and grant no MainWP access until resolved.
Key features
- Preserve MainWP Permissions: Migrated Team Control roles keep their saved MainWP permissions after upgrading.
- Read Only Capabilities: Migrated roles lose WordPress administrator capabilities and receive read and level_10 capabilities.
- Combined Role Access: A user with several active roles receives the union of their saved MainWP permissions.
- Held Role Behaviour: Held and disabled roles grant no MainWP permissions, and a held role may retain old WordPress capabilities.
- Owner Registry Seeding: Eligible administrators with no Team Control role become owners when no owner registry exists.
- Multisite Owner Rules: On multisite, owner candidates must also be super administrators and the owner registry is network-wide.
- Manual Owner Recovery: WP-CLI can add an eligible administrator as an owner when the existing owner registry needs recovery.
- Table Engine Conversion: Team Control converts its own tables to InnoDB without converting WordPress core tables.
- Rollback Limits: Downgrading the plugin does not restore removed WordPress capabilities or undo data migrations.
